That was funny

So, trying to cheer myself up by watching a "funny" show depressed the hell out of me, but watching a show with darker themes made me feel better.

The backlash about the herbal steam bath thing a while ago was very curious to me. I suppose I was taken aback because I had just heard about that treatment from someone else, and it didn't strike me as being much weirder than a sitz bath or even just sitting in a sauna. I know doctors have said it is a bad idea. But I don't think it has even been studied all that much. I wonder what the doctors think of taking bubblebaths? Woman marinates in cocktail of carcinogens and endocrine disrupting chemicals and lives to tell the tale. A while ago, I was walking around in a B & N with a gift card, but I ended up leaving without purchasing anything. I finally bought a book to educate myself about my anatomy, and also In Times of Trouble, which I just started. So far, it is not-easy going, because I cannot relate to a woman with a trust fund who wears a bikini while ordering a pitcher of daiquiris and eats three types of eggs with champagne, but I am holding out for the epic empyreal experience at Chartres Cathedral. Also, I like that cover, so it is worth it. I think it would be a good book to read while lying on a beach.

On matrimonial things on Valentine's Day

One time when I lived on the East Coast in my early 20s, I found a picture of two people and fell in love with it. It was taken in the '60s or '70s. They were dressed in white. They were getting married on a beach. They were barefoot and wore conch shell necklaces, I think. I had just gotten to the point where I said, "That's what I want!" to myself. Then my mom came in. I asked her about the picture. She told me it was a picture of her cousin and his wife. They had a daughter, then got divorced, and then the mother was killed in Las Vegas. I felt shock. I decided to go to the bookstore. This was during the Beltway sniper attacks. I drove to Borders and noticed that only one or two of the patrons dared to sit by the windows. For some reason, I ended up picking up a book about S & M, written by a woman. No joke. I wish I remembered the name of the book. I only remember that she said something about getting acquainted with Marquis de Sade because she had to get to know her enemies.

I looked at music news and I can't believe Sam Smith is 22 years old. The only video of his music that I've watched so far is all about two women who just exist to be shaggable vehicles for a man's loneliness...how much of the songwriter goes into the video? And I talked to a group of young people (some of them are a little older than he is) and found out none of them watched the awards show or were particularly interested in it. So, hmmm.

This reminded me of that time I was watching a documentary which talked about how he was supposed to go camping with Emerson. I was a little morose, as if E. were cheating on T., even though I think T. was dead at that point. Then it went on to say that, even though E. was supposed to go camping, he actually backed out at the last minute on the advice of his lawyer. Ha ha ha ha Emerson! Then: You are way too invested in this. You may need to see a psychologist.

There is this book...it's not my favorite...I do feel a little guilty because I skimmed a lot of it... I can't tell if I'm going to reread it or not, although it's possible...it's just one of the ones that was suggested to me when I asked for some recommendations a while back..it was in my hand at the time I saw creepy guy in the woods with kids...I will say that, if I bother to go back over some things, I am a little surprised at my sarcasm, and I thought to myself, who do you think you are, a Y.T.? The answer is No...also, if I were the author, I probably would have made her a 20-something-year-old college dropout living at home with Mom, as many 15-year-olds simply do not have the sort of sexual sophistication that Y.T. possesses (in a parallel universe, the author probably says "fuckyou" and I go "yep.") And now, on account of a little bit of susceptibility to pizza in literature, I think I should go read a novel that features delicious celery smoothies.
