Maybe I'll give "Citizen Kane" a try

I don't understand why I was put on the path of people with irresponsible-to-others-itis who are capable of being so much better but don't want to be. Maybe the film will help.

Of course what people need is

Healing...

But it seems as though many "privileged people" either don't want to help or don't know how to help. You get the message that you are from the wrong kind of background or genetics for their frame of reference. However, they might know how to be more helpful to others and even enjoy doing so if they got more healing work done for themselves. But many were taught to disdain such things, and some still get rewarded for being unhealed. So they have no motivation to change, and cannot see how change would benefit them too. Yet, it also seems as though it is not an option to change to accommodate the patriarchal ones because too many factors (genetics and background) make it so the universe won't allow it.

The forces of patriarchy and sexism do NOT affect everyone similarly.

Maybe it would be better to find other people or resources...

Since climate change is coming

Be nicer to yourself, to honor who you're going to be in the future.

What if you could live in a very nature-y place but comfortably (not roughing it), make stories happen with minimal attention, help the Earth and society become healthier and happier, and turn the lousy times into treasures.

Such energy!

A zooming vocal playful attack kitten appeared at the appointed hour.

Life on Earth is a challenge

You want to have good, wholesome, creative fun. Tragedy interferes!

Keep calm and pet the kitten.

It seems strange that this one is not easier to access

And in a time of increased awareness about climate change...

“'The Journals of Knud Rasmussen' is based on real events in 1922 that were literally written down within the journals of Knud Rasmussen. It is a post-contact story, a story of the loss of cultures, the story of Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen’s encounter with an Inuit family group, the story of a shaman (Avva) giving up his spirit guides so that his people can eat, the story of a young woman (Apak) whose connection to the spirit world allows her to see what others can’t: that life will never be the same again. This is the film that transformed me."

"As we end National Women’s Month, I offer praise to my mother-in-law, Helen Chavez, who along with her husband Cesar, my wife Anna, and her seven siblings, started the farmworker movement, later joined by Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with Cesar Chavez. Without Helen Chavez, there would never have been a Cesar Chavez. She was the rock of the movement."

"There is one lingering controversy. In the 1970s, during grape and lettuce strikes, a few Chicano intellectuals began to tell a story of Cesar Chavez being against undocumented workers. I was in a number of these conversations between them. He always said, that unlike him, they did not have a constituency and could afford to be abstract. Since then, a number of Latino intellectuals and detractors have repeated that he had said, 'I am against undocumented workers.' They conveniently left off the rest of his words, 'who break my strikes or are used as strikebreakers. I represent undocumented strikers who don’t want anyone, documented or not, breaking their strike. If my own mother broke my strike, I would be against her.'"

Insomnia is not the problem.

Sigh...another tip from the Universe

Well, no one ever said you had to be super mature or non-sexist to be a dad of a daughter, the universe reminded me once again. If an exchange lasted for a minute, I got paid 30 cents for overhearing it.

Elder Dad of Daughter laughed with Younger Dad of Daughter about how he knew it was sexist but he couldn't believe B. Clinton was the President of the United States and couldn't do any better than M. Lewinsky and Younger Dad added to their mirth by saying Arnold Schwarzenegger was even worse for having a kid with his maid.

Tip: In the next life, it might not sound so funny. Might just sound like they're being sort of sexist and dehumanizing. Dads.

Bonus: Some patience was required before any of that unfolded when another dad who wanted to ask for help but was also partially embarrassed about asking for it kept throwing around terms relating to his occupation, like "aerospace" "millions" "margins" and also "I respect what you do, but I don't need this shit"  (well not to make $$$, technically, but if he wants a degree I guess he does...) Yet at the end, he said "Thank you" and behaved nicely and did not join in with the other two (although he might have overheard them too? Who knows). Progress?

"Shadow in Hawthorn Bay by Janet Lunn"

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/630549.Shadow_in_Hawthorn_Bay

It is, in some ways, a rather creepy book but it brings back pleasant memories of living in a house with a wood stove. On a bluff. Surrounded by the sounds of the wind, and scotch broom. On an island in the Pacific Northwest.

My grocery shopping trip ended nicely

Two pleasant young guys talked with me about liking the icecream with the boba in it even though it's not for everybody.

Before that, some older employees were cussing in another aisle. One was complaining that raves "used to be much safer." Were they really? I wanted to inquire and then Nope, not doing that to myself today.

Later, the cussing guy was mildly picking on his female coworker as a display of his prowess at jokey dominance. RAVES USED TO BE MUCH SAFER FOR HIM.

It's awkward in the next life

Waking up in a cold sweat muttering "Bad for women! That industry is bad for women!"

She's had an interesting life.

"McAleese was awarded a doctorate in Canon Law in 2018 (JCD)[17] at Rome's Pontifical Gregorian University.[86] In 2013, she said that she obtained a master's degree and licentiate in canon law and her interest grew because of her concern about what has been happening in the Church – the sexual abuse scandal, among other things. When McAleese looked at the scandal, she said 'I was struck by what investigators said about canon law and canon lawyers. It was a scathing indictment: In not one single incidence of sexual abuse had canon law been able to do anything on the victim's side, nothing useful or helpful.'"[87]

Persecuting doctors and endangering human's health is not wise

"While Michigan's 1931 law allows abortions to save the life of the mother, Nessel noted that an affirmative defense is difficult to prove. and speculated that fear of prosecution would discourage doctors from performing abortions even when women's lives were at risk.

Whose prognosis counts? Consider, she says, a pregnant woman with cancer.

"An oncologist would never let you have radiation treatment or chemotherapy if you were pregnant, but an oncologist would never opine that you were going to die before the child was born," Nessel said. "It’s a guessing game."

Any trial would become a contest of dueling experts, with the outcome hinging on the jury's judgment, not a physician's."

Headaches!

"I remember talking to a Mexican immigrant to the U.S. who overcame many hardships along the way. He told me something reminiscent of what my mother would say: 'You Americans don’t seem to realize it, but most of you are millionaires by world standards. I don’t mean that you have a million dollars, necessarily, but you expect running water in every home, hot and cold. You expect a working flush toilet in every home. You expect electricity and gas in every home, so you have lights, heating, and a way to cook and wash your clothes. I never had or expected any of those things,' he said."

Today it is as if my body and I simply do not know how to do the thrive in a patriarchy and ignore a bunch of problems thing. It's literally as if my body won't allow it at the moment. It could also be a time of the cycle and time of life thing. I simply do not know how else to say it right now. Maybe there will be other ways to say it again later.

Genuinely sad about real perils to women's healthcare in these times

We have so many opportunities to assist people that weren't available centuries ago and now we throw them away because of some shameful patriarchal doctrines? To make life more difficult for the daughters and the sons?

It really is heartening to know some men wrote this

"Patriarchy is so ubiquitous and so devious that even people and organizations who oppose it in theory can end up colluding with it. We experience it as a relapsing illness. Some of its symptoms, which are most observed in workplaces, include:

 - The belief that there is one right way of doing everything, and we alone know what it is

-Expecting others to just 'deal with' conditions and expectations they deem unfair or harmful

-Individualistic rather than collective notions and expressions of leadership

-Fear of vulnerability and intimacy

-Commitment to inflexible hierarchy

-Power hoarding

-Prioritizing performance and production over care and protection"

So when I go to the podcast about healing yourself somehow the link goes to a different episode...it's all about how naturopath wants pcos women to know they can have children and how wonderful... I had to stop. That was not what I asked for while preparing my healthy meal. That is for the rich women who are good at ignoring all the immigrant labor needed for their comforts. This is a careless and psychologically damaging society. It's so wonderful they want to steal away reproductive rights from people but not give relief to single mothers or low income families, because...? This is increasingly becoming a society that treats a lot of women and children very very badly like anyone who is health challenged and not in at least a six figure household and that is a lot of people.

She told Smith that she'd asked the costumers fitting her to tighten the corsets. 'Just tighten it, I want to look snatched,' she recalled telling them, describing that choice as 'ambitious.' A: There are still people who make you feel like they'd treat you and your situation as more legitimate if you were here on Earth in a different kind of body right now.

Q: What does encountering people who indulge in dehumanizing behavior patterns mean to you?

Q: What does encountering people who perpetuate hurtful behavior patterns look like to you?

A: Sometimes, some people seem to feel the need to give you a message that they would only treat you better as a woman if you had a certain type of man supporting you.

Q: When encountering people who have toxic patriarchal habits, what is the kind of message that gets communicated to you?

Who knows when or how motivation to change happens?

It may be tomorrow that it will happen, or it may be a very long time.

Positive change happens more quickly sometimes

"What happens when social movements are at odds with Catholic teaching?"| America Magazine

https://www.americamagazine.org/politics-society/2022/03/16/social-movements-catholic-242591

Just because some people grew up seeing a lot of people make excuses for unhealthy patriarchal practices in church environments and other places doesn't mean old unhealthy patterns have to be repeated.

"Teaching consent to children: 'The joke is where it starts and rape is where it ends' "| Sexual health | The Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/mar/21/teaching-consent-to-children-the-joke-is-where-it-starts-and-is-where-it-ends

I think more positive change will happen more quickly when a lot of people stop lying to themselves for temporary dopamine rushes and get more motivated to build something better.

Imagine a better world?

Where people didn't have really good, dopamine-fueling reasons to make a bunch of excuses for unhealthy and toxic patriarchal dynamics.

Feminism is necessary.

"There was the element of having women say, 'You know, we don’t want to listen to music that’s gonna degrade us,' then the men saying, 'That makes sense — and you’re right; our music is pretty sexist sometimes.' So music director Estella Del Villar would sit there, listen to records as they came in and filter out all the sexist music.

And they asked: 'What do women want to talk about?' Anything and everything, right? We want to talk about cooking and have recipes on air, we want to have music, but we also want to be serious and acknowledge things like domestic violence and incest — I don’t think that would’ve happened in an only-male-run station, to be honest. Because those situations intimately affect women in a particular way."

The Beautiful Blue Coat

"The 'Loving' Costumes are Just as Powerful and Understated as the Film" | Fashionista

https://fashionista.com/.amp/2016/11/loving-movie-costumes

Between the film and the documentary I finally got my suspicion confirmed about Mildred Loving's blue coat.

I told a most trusted & helpful soul that I believed Mildred Loving's coat was a deep royal blue with a black collar, much like the blue coat I wore when we met in college which also had a black collar, but whenever I look online, it's hard to find color photographs of her in the blue coat.

After watching the movie and seeing her in a darker blue coat with more of a brown furry collar, I wanted to know if I could see the color of the actual coat in the documentary. He fell asleep for part of it, and then woke up again. I was distracted when I heard him say, "Coat!" And yes, there it was!

I no longer have the coat I wore in college, but today I have a wrap which is also a very deep blue and it has a black collar.
