I am rapt

Huge mountains of potatoes in Idaho vs lines of cars at a food bank in Texas.

THAT IS APPROPRIATE SOMEHOW???

Find what you need...

I wonder if fancy ice cubes would be good for sore muscles.

It's learning time

Back muscles, I will let you educate me

Looking forward

To waking up not aching

To better back health...how about that deep muscle that feels like it's your back but is technically an abdominal?

To more space to put things as drawers and shelves for small spaces arrive...but what if we just had fewer things...do I really need this vegetable spiralizer?

To fewer unpacking interruptions - sometimes it's outside forces, sometimes it's the body...

To having it all put away or given away (that's a challenge...who accepts donations now?)

New sounds

Louder birds.
Neighbors outdoors but not next to the wall. That's good.
Saw a raptor over a neighbor's tree yesterday!
More wind.
The freeways are louder or softer sometimes. It depends.
Trains...

Oranges, thyme, oregano

I collected those from a neighbor's driveway and a community garden when I lived in the old place. That was a different environment.

Sleeping lately

Involves waking up exhausted and achey.
Weird dreams too, like one about being on two Zoom meetings at once, or another about lying under mosquito netting upon which birds can perch.

A whirl

Moved during a pandemic.
The day goes by fast...
Still more to sort, organize, and unpack.

The quarter-eating washing machine in the complex won't work and it's gloomiest Easter ever but that means it's time listen to downtempo music and drink a hot sugary red date dong quai beverage (an impulse buy--one of many things to try to finish up before moving) and do something useful inside like cook or sort through papers or pack small things and later go out to have a walk in the gray drizzle fest before the sun goes down.

Why should good food go to waste?

"Kim Jamerson thinks 'it's just a shame' to have enough food, but not be able to get it to the people in need. 'A woman who's got two kids how can she live on unemployment, go into a grocery store and pay 90 cents for a cucumber? She just can't do that.'

Part of the problem is that it takes labor to move produce from one place to another, and people are still figuring out who will pay for that."

~ D. Charles

"Food Shortages? Nope, Too Much Food In The Wrong Places"

"Jamerson says she can't afford to pay workers to pick a crop that will be donated. She wants the government to step in, provide workers or the money to pay them, and make sure food gets to where it's needed. 'The government could send the food to the hospitals, the rest homes, to the food banks, to the churches,' she says."

~ D. Charles

"NPR on Twitter: 'As farmers dump the food they usually sell to restaurants, food banks are struggling to feed the spike in people who can't afford groceries."

https://mobile.twitter.com/npr/status/1246302481350561792

Why is a 60-year-old getting $12/hour to risk her life?

“'They preach to us for years, ‘One mask, one room,’ and now you’re telling me, ‘One mask for eight hours?’ That doesn’t work for me,” said one longtime employee who still works there and did not want to be named for fear of retribution.

The employee is over 60 years old and added: 'I think about quitting every day.'

A TouchPoint spokesperson said in a written statement Wednesday: 'We adhere to the highest standards and protocols in infection prevention to keep our team members safe.'"

You can appreciate the details

"The housekeepers typically make between $11 and $12 per hour and do not receive hazard pay, he said.

Housekeepers said that as of last week, they are no longer required to clean the rooms with COVID-19 patients in them, though they still clean the rooms upon discharge and emergency room areas where positive-testing patients are treated.

And, they said, there seems to be a hierarchy on who gets protective equipment, with preference going to the clinical staff, rather than cleaning crews and other support services."

~ R. Rutledge

https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2020/04/01/coronavirus-milwaukee-ascension-st-francis-hospital-cleaners-quit-over-lack-protective-equipment-ppe/5103264002/

"CDC guidelines suggest nurses and others already in protective gear clean rooms with COVID-19 patients and that housekeepers can clean after the patients are discharged.

But the cleaning crews should not rush into the rooms, the guidelines suggest.

'We do not yet know how long (COVID-19) remains infectious in the air,' the CDC’s guidelines state.

Regardless, the environment services workers "should refrain from entering the vacated room until sufficient time has elapsed for enough air changes to remove potentially infectious particles.”

They should be equipped with gloves and gowns, at minimum, and masks and eye protection, in addition, “if splashes or sprays during cleaning and disinfection activities are anticipated.”

Hospitals across Wisconsin are advertising for job openings for environmental service managers and workers."

~ R. Rutledge

More attention is being paid now

"In Wisconsin, Will Hsu, owner of Wausau-based Hsu Ginseng Farms, said it will be training guest workers arriving soon. He said he is thinking about placing three workers instead of four in each of their two-bedroom apartments.

'It’s very important for us to keep them healthy,' he said.

But in the fields, he said, some tasks on the farm require groups of three, four or five to work closely together."

I guess some will remember this

“'Throughout this public health crisis, there has not been a day when farmworkers have stopped showing up to work. Their work ethic and commitment keep food in our grocery stores and fill America’s tables. As you know, farmworkers have been deemed essential during this public health crisis, and, as such, they have been asked to continue working. Although they help feed the nation, the mean and median income of a farmworker family are $20,000 and $24,999, respectively. Despite their low-wages, many won’t be able to receive the direct cash assistance headed to millions of U.S. households. Many of these essential workers lack critical benefits,' the Members wrote."
